I have four older children, all grown up, and all involved in sport through their school years. Three of them boys, who played Football and Rugby, for Penryn and Falmouth, through primary and secondary education, because it was possible for them to do so. It is only now, in adult life at the age of 31, that my eldest Lily, is able to pursue Football. Not least because it is only recently that the opportunity is there for women and girls to seriously take up the sport of Football or Rugby, when there are still primary and secondary schools struggling to establish football teams for girls even now.
The reason to sponsor this team was two-fold: One, because I recognise Ruby’s (my step daughter) skill and talent for the sport; Two, moreover, that the whole team clearly has individual and corporate skill and enthusiasm for the sport, that needs as much nurturing, training, encouragement, and most importantly, that they get recognition for their individual and corporate skills and abilities now, and in the future.
