Team Player Welcome Pack
Welcome to your team. Everything you need to know about being in a team is here. We are a community club and we welcome and encourage all our members, parents and guardians to take an active role in helping out and supporting the team.
Club ethos
Every player has the opportunity to play football in a safe environment with the correct level of challenge for them to develop to the best of their ability. Football for all.
Player reviews
In line with the FA development model, each child has a player review meeting with their coach at least once a year. Reviews focus on the FA four-corner model – technical, psychological, physical and social development – and are an opportunity to discuss progress and give feedback and advice. Parents can ask questions at these meetings, and our Welfare Officers are on hand for any concerns.
Movement between teams
Where there is more than one team in an age group playing at different levels, players can move between teams during the season to reflect the level of challenge. Player reviews give an indication of the best environment and team for each child.
Team roles
Teams work best with maximum parent involvement and children who are keen to develop in a team environment. This is where we need your help:
- Team coaches and manager – essential in starting a new team. The club supports you with training and guidance.
- Team secretary – there is some admin in organising matches; we need a keen parent to take this on within the team.
- Committed players – you play the most important role in representing your club: attend all training and matches, follow the code of conduct, and show respect to your coach, team-mates, the opposition and the referee.
- Parent reps and volunteers – refereeing, sponsorship, running the line, welcoming opposition teams, setting up and tidying away, cheering on the team, tying shoelaces, washing shirts, or making cakes.
Enrolment and fees
Registration instructions are sent out on SPOND. An annual subscription of approximately £100 covers pitch hire, insurance, league registration, end of season and admin costs. Fees are paid through SPOND and can be paid in instalments. Refunds are only given in exceptional circumstances.
Kit
All team players are allocated a kit of a yellow and black shirt, black shorts and black socks. Each child keeps their shorts and socks, but shirts are on loan. Shirts are collected after each match and washed ready for the next match, except for girls who keep their shirts for the whole season. Kit is only to be worn for matches, not training. Shirts must not be tumble dried, and any lost shirts must be paid for. Shirts are returned to FCYFC at the end of the season.
Matches
There are approximately 16 league matches per season, half at home and half away, played on a Saturday or Sunday – your team will usually be allocated a regular day and slot for home games. There are league and county cup games for the older age groups, and younger age groups are entered into Trophy Events. Each home match needs a referee and a linesperson, and someone to provide cakes for both teams after the game. Teams also have the chance to take part in friendly matches and tournaments, for which there are additional costs.
Training
Most teams have mid-week evening training – grass in the summer months and the 3G or sports hall in the winter. All team players up to U13 are encouraged to also attend Saturday morning community football when they don't have a match. Team kit is not to be worn for training.
SPOND
Keeping active on SPOND is essential – for details about training and matches, and to respond to any messages. Tasks can be set up under match events to cover jobs including pitch set-up, shirt washing, half-time snacks, cakes for home games and requesting linesperson assistance. Please make sure your notifications are turned on.
Respect
Our Respect Code of Conduct is central to our club and all members must read and follow the respect guidelines on and off the pitch – this includes parents. The yellow and red card system will be used if required, and this could result in your child missing important league matches. Cards can be given for misbehaviour on and off the pitch at any FCYFC event, and can also be given to adults. Respect barriers are set up at every match and we ask that spectators remain behind the barrier for the duration.
Welfare officers
